In April 2007, a friend invited me aboard the boat she lives on for a painting date. After a delicious lunch, we left the boat's winter docking spot in the South Loop for a walk in Grant Park. The day was clear and sunny but cold, so we set a brisk pace. We went far enough east to enjoy Lake Michigan's tossing waters and intriguing colors and the cool hues filling the sky. On our return, my friend painted a watercolor interpretation of a small stained glass piece hanging in one of the boat's windows. My painting effort yielded this impression of Lake Michigan and the sky, as seen from the park during our walk. Most of the piece was created in watercolor, with swirls of red and blue ink added to the water to heighten the lake's intensity and evoke its restless movement.
