This little watercolor (7.5 by 4 inches) came into being during a painting session in early May 2005, when the Sun was in Taurus. Inspired by flowers from a friend's garden, it makes the most of the Bull's love of nature and sensual pleasures, particularly touch. It was painted on a heavy yet highly flexible handmade paper whose rich texture resembles wrinkly old leather grown supple with age. The paint adds to the texture with an impasto effect in areas such as the flowers' centers. This photograph shows not just the painted flowers but the entire piece of paper they occupy to highlight the rough, torn edges that resulted when it was torn carefully out of a much larger sheet of paper.
