Notable Accomplishments
- Initiated and implemented new printing and typesetting purchasing processes for Loyola University Chicago that saved $30,000 and improved publications quality.
- Reorganzied Loyola Department of Public Relations in 1986, allowing the department to assume new duties and projects without disrupting the old.
- Introduced, and persuaded Lake View Citizens Council to pass, a bill blocking unwanted widening of two Chicago streets.
- For the Gazette, initiated and wrote investigative articles on Illinois' write-in candidacy procedures, which resulted in Gazette publisher winning March 1988 State Representative primary.
- Articles about 1991 Aldermanic race prompted business leaders from adjacent neighborhood to negotiate successfully with the Gazette concerning expansion of the publication's distribution into their area.
- During a time of budget cutbacks when the University of Chicago projected at $25 million deficit, persuaded administration to give one of my staff a mid-year raise in pay, to fill an open position despite an informal hiring freeze, and to increase GSB Chicago budget by $50,000 per year.
- Completely rewrote and oversaw resdesign of the single publicity piece for the University of Chicago's Business Forecast Luncheon in late 1994. Attendance increased substantially after falling for several years.
- Put out four issues of GSB Chicago in 1994, the first time four issues had appeared in a year since 1985. Increased numbers of alumni news notes in GSB Chicago substantially in 1994. This increase was Dean Robert Hamada's primary goal for the magazine.
- At the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, developed a mailing list of publications and other sources for press releases for the first time.
- Developed a system for the dean to send out thank-you letters and congratulatory letters.
- Wrote donor proposals that resulted in $100,000 gift, 1996; $1.25 million gift, 2000; $1.5 million gift , 2005.
- Found appraiser qualified to value the DuBrul collection of anatomical artifacts.
- In first year as associate director of advancement, giving rose 66 percent and College of Dentistry had its best fundraising year ever.
- Wrote award nominations to U of I Alumni Association that resulted in two College of Dentistry alumni getting awards out of four awards total; College of Dentistry alumni won the Alumni Achievement Award three years in a row, 2004-06.
- Led Monticello/Central Park neighbors in fight that successfully blocked townhouse development.
